Annual Candlelight Vigil 2024

The Annual Candlelight Vigil, held on December 1st for World AIDS Day, is a heartfelt tribute to those who have lost their lives to AIDS-related illnesses and a show of solidarity with the over 32,000 Jamaicans living with HIV. Through the lighting of candles, we honor their memory, offer support to those affected, and raise awareness of the ongoing impact of HIV/AIDS in Jamaica. This year’s event will be guided by the theme “Community & Science, U=U as a Catalyst for Change,” emphasizing the power of community and scientific advancements in transforming lives and reducing HIV stigma.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

Violence against women and girls remains one of the most prevalent and pervasive human rights violations in the world. Globally, almost one in three women have been subjected to physical and/or sexual intimate partner violence, non-partner sexual violence, or both, at least once in their life. On November 25, 2024 we observe International Day for The Elimination of Violence Against Women, and we advocate for the rights of women with a Silent Protest. This will mark the 10th staging of the event which started in 2014 under the UNTRUST Fund to end Violence Against Women (VAW). The event was supported by AHF and includes a march, stand in silence and chants to end VAW. HIV is both a cause and effect of VAW and as such the work to end VAW is closely tied to controlling the spread of HIV.
